Using an IRE Table

An Initial (I) Reaction (R) Equilibrium (E) table is a very useful tool that can help you determine the necessary values for an equilibrium calculation.  You can use one in any problem where you know some, but not all, the values at equilibrium.

To make the table, draw a 3 row grid underneath the balanced equation, and label the rows.

It is the bottom row that we really want to use.  The other rows in the table just help us to get there.
